Bruce Murray

Bruce Murray is an accomplished former American professional soccer player. Growing up in Maryland, Bruce was involved in soccer for majority of his life. While in high school, he not only played for his school’s boys’ soccer team, he was also involved in club soccer where he won 2 national championships. Upon graduating from high school, Bruce continued his soccer career at Clemson University where he played both, mid-fielder and forward earning All-American honors for both positions while also winning 2 NCAA championships. His talent also earned him a Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top men’s and women’s college soccer players, as well as the Intercollegiate Soccer Association Player of the Year his senior year. Immediately upon graduation, Bruce began playing soccer professionally in the American Soccer League, eventually the American Professional Soccer League, for five seasons before joining the U.S. Soccer Federation to play for the U.S. Men’s National team. During this time, Bruce represented the United States in both the FIFA Futsal World Championship as well as the FIFA World Cup. He also, spent time playing internationally for England’s Millwall and Switzerland’s FC Luzern. In 1995, Bruce retired from playing soccer as a result of multiple brain and knee injuries but his presence on the field was not forgotten. He is now a member of the Clemson University Hall of Fame as well as the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
